5 Questions About a Job - and more...

What You Were Meant To Be

I recently read an article by Suzy Welch, an encapsulization of the intensive research she performed on the current level of dissatisfaction people feel in their jobs. A full picture of her findings can be found in her book, Winning. She found that the people interviewed, "wanted passionately to know whether or not they were in the right job in the first place. They yearned for a way to understand who and what they were meant to be in life."

She has five questions that can help answer that; these are questions that can apply to either the job you currently hold or a position you are considering. She hopes they will "steer you toward the career that... turns work into joy".

1) Does this job allow me to work with "my people" - individuals who share my sensibilities about life - or do I have to put on a persona to get through the day?

2) Does this job challenge, stretch, change, and otherwise make me smarter - or does it leave my brain in neutral?

3) Does this job, because of the company's "brand" or my level of responsibility, open the door to future jobs?

4) Does this job represent a considerable compromise for the sake of my family, and if so, do I sincerely accept that deal with all of its consequences?

5) Does this job - the stuff I actually do day-to- day - touch my heart and feed my soul in meaningful ways?

There you have it. I was very moved by these five questions. May they be of service to you!

Dear Jean,

Happy December!

Nurture Yourself

We all have a list of "shoulds". "I should exercise, I should organize my office, I should get a Virtual Assistant..." (a grin for you...)

I have found a wonderful type of EXERCISE. We can think we need a big block of time for exercise to benefit cardiovascular, etc. That 'block of time' can be a roadblock, right? Well, I've found a short body/mind workout that is really working for me.

I begin my day, still laying in bed!, with a 20 minute, gentle Yoga routine offered by Rodney Yee. This brief 20 minutes is a gift to myself for balancing and centering my body and mind, opening those creaky hip joints and sitting for a moment in meditation about the day - a lovely one - ahead.

I know, I know... You may be saying, "I don't have TIME!" The way I got over that hurdle was to envision looking down at a cute little girl and saying to her (me), "I don't have TIME for you!" The image is so mean and harsh and yucky. So, I take the time, now.

Does it help to think of a little YOU? Yoga is truly wonderful for your body and mind and can start off your day with the FIRST MESSAGE of the day being self nurturance. You can't beat that...

You're So Fascinating!

Don't you love to learn about YOU?

I'd like to invite you to the Human Metrics site where you can take a free Jung Typology Test to learn more about you. There's a Risk Attitudes Profiler and a Jung Marriage Test and a Small Business Entrepreneur Profiler, an Assertiveness Test, and more...

Have fun! Maybe some new insights can help build a wonderful 2006 -- hope so!

About Jean

As a Virtual Assistant, I partner with entrepreneurs who'd like to spend more time performing their expertise, not working on operational, administrative, or promotional tasks. That's where I fit in.

If you or someone you know would like to delegate tasks that cause "the most pain" each month, or that are neglected because of that aversion - that's where I fit in.

I invite you to contact me with questions, suggestions for my newsletter, names of overly busy people who'd like to be referred to me, or just to say 'hi'. Please email me - or click my web site link. Be Well!
