Buffalo Poems

My family refers to me as "Buffalo Woman" because I have collected buffalo art, jewelry, sculpture, books, T-shirts and more, all my life - and my house has lots and lots of buffalo collectibles. I can't resist sharing with you one of my very favorite pieces - excerpts from Joe Ribar's wonderful The Book Of The Buffalo. I hope you enjoy his poems as much I do!

Buffalo moved in last night
83 in the living room
at body temp
had to run out and buy paper plates
and plastic spoons
and do you know
I was out of hay
and had to give them
bacon and eggs

-----------

all day long
the plains rolled on
grass after grass
buffalo eating everything
no one else was around

indians wasn't alive yet

-----------

when I'm asleep
the buffalo
run very slow
waiting
for me
to catch up

-----------

just beautiful
beautiful
buffalo
no V-8's
no america

-----------

we met at the buffalo ball
I kissed her cloven hoof

Dear Jean,

I've come up with a few spunky items, hoping you'll enjoy them. Please note that at the bottom of this page, there is a forward-to-a- friend option, if you'd like to share my tips with them.

As always, best wishes to you!

How Stuff Works

What a fun web site this is - you can learn about lots of things, just click the category of your choice. Here are a few I found...

"How Mardi Grad Works" - roots and traditions of Mardi Gras.
"How Your Immune System Works" - it is designed to defend you.
"How Sewing Machines Work."

Comebacks to Toxic People

Lillian Glass, Ph.D., has an excellent book offering various techniques on how to deal with the inevitable toxic people in your life. In her book Toxic People, she explains many techniques, among them The Humor Technique, The Mirror Technique, etc.

I thought I'd offer you some of her suggested comeback lines when someone has been nasty. She advises memorizing them in advance to "be ready".

"The last time I met you was in a nightmare."
"I don't know what makes you tick, but I hope it's a time bomb."
"I don't know what I'd do without you, but I'd rather."
"I can't remember your name, but your nasty manners are familiar."

Are you laughing?

Hope so!

Crazy-Making Voice Mails

You've gotten them, I know... The voice mails where the speaker says her or his name and number so fast that you have to replay and replay and replay to try to "guesstimate" what they said?

Or do you just delete it, exasperated?

Even if it feels abnormally slow, be sure to say your full name s-l-o-w-l-y on a voice mail - and your phone number even MORE s-l-o-w-l-y .

Distinctly convey these two vital pieces of information, marketing experts advise. For a new acquaintance, it is wise to also spell your last name.

Maximize the power of your voice mails - be remembered.

Jean's Radio Interview

I've gotten some requests asking for the link, again, to listen to my radio interview about what it is to be a Virtual Assistant. Here it is again - the link to my site so you can listen to a few minute interview.

Thanks, everyone, for your warm feedback about this interview. It's a pleasure to spread the word about what I do - help successful people who are too busy.
