The Flurry of the Approaching Holidays
The Holidays are coming up quickly - and what a joyful
time! We connect with friends, family, eat great food,
party down, receive gifts - yee ha!
Yet, true, we can overload this joyful time with
pressures we layer onto it -- 'have to' purchase perfect
gifts, 'have to' entertain in a certain way, 'have
to'... sigh...
I urge you to be kind to yourself by NOT doing that --
and to take a message from Maya Angelou. Somewhat
recently I was lucky enough to hear Ms. Angelou speak,
here in Denver. Her message is so clear, strong and
beautiful. She recommends that, since each and every one
of us is wholly unique and wonderful, we "let our light
shine".
Dr. Angelou came out on stage, smiled at our
enthusiastic welcome, and then quietly began to sing,
"This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. This
little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine..." From
there, she painted pictures of folks' good efforts,
which seemed small and unlikely to affect anyone's life,
but which did, ultimately, profoundly touch someone's
life. You may not know who you move deeply by being
yourself.
It's the holiday season - a perfect time to just be YOU,
the best YOU you can be -- by letting your light shine.
Being you, in conjunction with engaging in voluntary
simplicity, will make for a mahvelous holiday season. I
wish just that for you!
